First View on Nokia N9

Just a  few hours ago, Nokia had revealed the N9 at the Nokia Connection Event in Singapore. Nokia N9 is the world’s first pure touch smartphone. Pure touch implies that it has no front facing buttons and completely operates on Touch. The Phone has been built to make the User Interface much simpler as it runs on MeeGo. All you need to do to use the N9 is just a Swipe of finger over the screen. Navigation between apps would be possible by just a Swipe. I do feel that it is similar to navigating between Apps on Windows 8 :P

Nokia N9

Design and Hardware

The Design is very attractive as you can see in the pics at the end of the post. it has a 3.9 inch curved glass AMOLED display. The phone comes with 1GB of RAM and 16GB or 64GB of onboard memory. The body of Nokia N9 is made of Polycarbonate Shell. Hence the scratches on the phone will not be much visible. The phone measures 116.45- x 61.2- x 7.6-12.1mm and weighs 135 grams. The battery of Nokia N9 would last for 50 hours. Nokia has always been better with battery. It comes in three colours black, cyan and magenta. I would prefer cyan :P What about you?

Three Home Views

This is perhaps one of the best change Nokia has brought about with the N9. It provides you with three Home Views:

  1. Applications for launching and organizing your apps
  2. Events for social networking feeds and notifications for calls, texts, calendar events, etc
  3. Open applications for switching between all live apps you have used recently.

Camera

It has a 8 Mega-Pixel atuo focus Camera which can be operated with a dedicated camera button. The Camera has dual LED Flash and a 28mm wide Lens. It also enables 16:9 720p HD video recording. You can share your photos via Facebook, Flickr, NFC or any other photo sharing service.

Connectivity

It has quad-band GSM and penta-band WCDMA radios, Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, NFC and GPS. Using NFC, you can connect with other NFC enabled devices. Once you pair up your phone with the other one, you need to just tap the phone once to connect to other devices and hence share photos, business cards.

Latest Maps

The Nokia Maps (free) provide you with voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation for walking and driving. A dedicated Drive App for in-car navigation is also available which would help you start navigating to your destination instantly. You can find nearby cafés, shops, hotels and other places which would be marked on the maps. I would still prefer using Google Maps.

Software and Browser

The phone comes with a WebKit-2 based Browser with pinch-to-zoom support. In the Events view, you can check out your Facebook Notifications, Twitter and RSS Feeds. The Social Networking profiles and their status updates are merged with the phone’s contacts. You also have the Ovi Store for downloading apps. You can also download Blogotech’s official app from Ovi Store.

Nokia has not revealed anything regarding the price of Nokai N9 and its release date. The phone will be available later this year. It looks like this is another great phone from Nokia! But still, I prefer to use Sony Ericsson phones because of it’s durability.

Many NFC Phones launched in the last days. Nokia comes with three new phones. No embedded secure element or SWP for secure payments. But… in the press release many words about NFC technology. Nokia is absolutely right pointing to the NFC sharing and pairing capabilitys. NFC is much more than mobile payments. For all available NFC Phones by country and by carrier.

This is a great phone, no wonder. Great style. The 8 MP camera works great too, but the only problem is with the application support. There are few issues with Meego operating system. But overall, I like this phone very much.

I can’t under stand why they made 2 phones with 16GB & 64GB . Is there any other difference between these 2 phones??
