What is Rooting?
Rooting is a process by which you can access system files of your Android OS. After rooting Samsung Galaxy Y, you can install applications which require access to these system files. It becomes necessary if you wish to customize your Android device and also install custom ROMs like CyanogenMod ROMs which are highly customizable and have a better performance than the stock ROMs.
Why Should You Root Your Device?
Rooting has quite a lot of advantages. If you are a tru Geek, you would love rooting your device. A few top advantages of rooting are
- Rooting lets you customize your phone in a better way.
- Install Custom ROMs to improve the performance.
- Remove System apps which you do not need and hence free up space
- Convert the file system of current RFS to the faster ext4 file formats
- Convert Downloaded apps to system Apps
Why Should You Not Root Your Device?
There are not many reasons for you not to root your device except the fact that your device’s warranty gets void. Usually all manufacturers provide a warranty of one year for the devices and they do not allow one to root the device and access system files. However, Android is an open source OS and hence there exists rooting! Also, you can unroot it later in case you wish to make use of your device’s warranty.
Prerequisites
Before you root your phone, you need to back up your phone’s data. You can back up your contacts to the SD Card and to back up your Applications you can use ASTRO File Manager. In case you need to reset your phone, you can make use of the back up files to restore those applications.
Disclaimer: BlogoTech is not responsible for any damage that might be caused to your device during this process though the possibility of any damage is negligible. Try this at your own risk. Also note, rooting your phone will void your warranty.
Steps to Root Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360
- Download Update.zip
- Copy the downloaded file to the root of your SD Card via USB Cable or any other method according to your convenience.
- Turn of your Samsung Galaxy Y
- Reboot into recover mode by pressing Home button + Volume up button and Power button for 20 seconds.
- When you are in recovery mode, select “Update from SD Card”.
- Now select Update.zip (the zip file you downloaded in step 1) and execute it by pressing the home button.
- Now your phone will be rooted after which you can select the reboot option.
- After this, your phone is rooted. I recommend you to download BusyBox from the Android Market after you have rooted your phone.
Isn’t that quite an easy way to root your phone? Let me know if you face any issues
If you wish to buy Samsung Galaxy Y, you can buy it from Dialaphone.

Thanks. I was looking for root my phone.
Followed your instructions but phone remains non-rooted. I’m on 2.3.6 GINGERBREAD.XXKL3. Any suggestions?
The tutorial is for Android 2.3.5 You can try downloading DooMLoRD’s Easy Rooting Toolkit V3 from here http://bit.ly/rwTmsV and click on run.bat Make sure your phone is connected to the PC and USB Debugging enabled. Just follow the steps on the screen. For unroot download this http://bit.ly/sEV2Tu
Sorry, but that didn’t work either. I also tried SuperOneClick…
Here is a link to XDA Forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378660 where it seems to be working!
This might help you out http://www.blogotechblog.com/2012/01/root-any-android-device/
hoe doe je stap 5
In recovery mode you need to navigate using the Volume buttons and select Update from SD Card.
The recovery is not working on my phone, it just turns off and on after pressing the three buttons..
You need to press them simultaneously Lisa!
By the way, you have to press the three buttons at the same time, I discovered. But how would you know if the phone is really rooted??
If your phone is rooted, you would have the “Superuser” app installed. If it is not present, you can download it from the market and then download Titanium Backup (recommended) If Titanium Backup asks for Superuser permissions, your phone is rooted
i have a problem
E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)
E: Can’t mount /sdcard
What did you do that you encountered this issue? If this does not work, try Unlock Root which is an easier process!
hey, i tried this update thing and did everythng right. but at the end of it it said “installation aborted”
wat can u do
PLEASE HELP
I’ve used this and it did work. Are you on Android 2.3.5 or 2.3.6? If this does not work, check this http://www.blogotechblog.com/2012/01/root-any-android-device/
im om android 2.3.6
Okay this does not root 2.3.6. You can check Unlock root http://www.blogotechblog.com/2012/01/root-any-android-device/ If this does not work, check SuperOneClick http://shortfuse.org/
yea it comes up with “failed to get shell access”.
ive tried superoneclick and didnt work,
it even went “not responding” a few times through it, but ill try the other link you did, is it for 2,3,6?
No, the other link is for Unlock Root which roots 250+ Android devices. If SuperOneClick does not respond, you should wait for it to respond. It happens often!
still not workn. and just saw something.
i put it in debugging mode but it doesnt come up with the “usb debugging connected”
what has gone wrong or does my phone not say it,
“samsung GT-S5360T”
i used superoneclick and this is the whole thing
“* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *

someone help me? was in the final process of rooting my galaxy y appeared in installation aborted appears another type of device GT-B7510, what do I do? I did something wrong?
The zip file seems to be corrupted
That made easy:
Download the zipfile and place the whole thing onto your phone(you dont have to put it anywhere special just leave it there).
take the usb cable off then turn off your phone,
then turn it on by holding the power button, home button, volume + button together for a few seconds
then when it comes up press the volume – (to update from sdcar)button
then go down the list and look for update.zip
then press the home button
then when it goes to the reboot press the home button agian
then wait for it to turn on
you have rooted your phone.
it said cannot mount sd card when in recovery mode
What might happen if your phone didn’t rooted properly ?
