Olive Pad: Price and Review

Notion Ink is a Bangalore based firm which has made a tablet computer, the Adam Tablet. It was launched worldwide through a video on December 18, 2010.  Pre-orders are available for this tablet right now.

The Adam Tablet runs a customised version of Android 2.3 and moreover it is the first Android device to contain Pixel-Qi’s low power dual-mode display.

The device weighs 730g processing with Nvidia Tegra 250 and Dual-Core Cortex A9 processors. It measures 19.1 × 26.9 × 1.4 cm.  The thickness is 14 mm. It also has a 3-axis accelerometer, an ambient light sensor and also GPS. It has two USB slots which can be used to connect to the mouse or the keyboard. The USB slots can also be used to charge other USB devices.

You can also plug in the Adam to a HDTV through the HDMI port which supports 1080p video output. So you can play all your HD videos in it and i hope it supports all video codecs.

It comes along with the Adobe Flash and is expected to support AIR when it is released.

A SIM card slot is also available for 3G and EDGE support. So you can even make calls and send text messages just like the Samsung Galaxy Tab and Olive Pad.

Pixel-Qi display

Pixel-Qi(pronounced as Pixel-Chi) is a technology with which the backlight of the LCD can be turned off or switched to black and white display for saving power. It is usually used in ebook readers and now it will be available in the Adam Tablet also 🙂

There are two choices of screen, the Pixel-Qi display and the LCD.  The size of the screen is 260mm with a resolution of 1024X600. The screen is scratch resistant and has an anti-glare coating for better functionality in sunlight.

It has a 3.2 MP Auto Focus Swivel Camera. The Swivel Cameras are also used in Camcorders. Swivel lenses are capable of rotating freely while they remain attached to the Camera’s body. The Swivel Camera in The Adam is capable of rotating up to 185 degrees.

Memory And Storage

It has a 1 GB DDR2 RAM. It has a Micro-SD card support and its memory can be expanded up to 128 GB

Connectivity is boosted by Wi-Fi and WWAN – 3G HSPA Compliant and also a bluetooth of version 2.1 with EDR(Enhanced Data Rate). 3G connectivity and GPS are also available.

The Audio is supposed to be pretty good with Stereo Loudspeakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The microphone is built-in.

The Pixel Qi versions costs $499.45 (Rs. 22,790)  for the Wi-Fi only model and $549.99 (Rs. 25,100) for the Wi-Fi and 3G version.
