HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE do not come with recovery installed. In that case you may not be able to root HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE too. If you have updated your phone to Ice Cream Sandwich you will again be unable to root your phone. This method will be helpful to you in such situations. There are very less chances that you will lose any data on your phone but backup is always advisable.
- Back up all apps using ASTRO File Manager.
- Back up all contacts to SD card.
- Backup SMS on Android.
- Backup call log on Android.
- Have minimum 60% charge on your phone.

Android Recovery Manager is a fine tool developed by claudenegm at XDA forums to help noobs. You do not need to run any ADB Commands which might be very difficult and sometimes you may brick your device.

After making sure you have the sufficient requirements, you can download Android Recovery Manager v184.108.40.206 – EXE from here.
Run the program on your Computer and follow the instructions you get on the screen.
