Galaxy Nexus is the most popular Android phone and most of you might have got Ice Cream Sandwich on your Galaxy Nexus. Hopefully, you would love to have Ice Cream Sandwich on Galaxy Nexus but have you rooted it? If not, this tutorial will explain how to root the device running Ice Cream Sandwich. You will be using CF-Root version 5.1. The modified kernel in CF-Root 5.1 is the addition of Superuser 3, Busybox 1.19, Insecure, and custom boot/init scripts.

Prerequisites
- Make sure your phone has a minimum charge of 60%
- Backup your phone’s contacts to SD Card.
- Backup your phone’s applications to SD Card, We recommend you to use ASTRO File Manager which also has cloud storage option.
- Also make sure you have Android SDK installed on your PC for method 2.
- You will need to write down the build number of your device. You can find it by going to Settings -> About Phone -> Build Number
- This process will delete data on devices that are not yet OEM unlocked.

Root Using Odin
- Download CF-Root Kernel. For YAKJU build number, click here to download and for MYSID build number, click here to download.
- Extract the ZIP file. The extracted file will be a .tar file
- Download Odin3 v1.85
- Again extract the contents of Odin 3 ZIP file into a separate foder.
- Open the folder where you have extracted Odin3 files.
- Run Odin3.exe
- After you open the Odin3 window, make sure the Re-Partition option is not checked.
- Click on PDA and select the .tar file which you had extracted in Step 2.
- Reboot Galaxy Nexus into download mode. This can be done by turning off the device and then press and hold the volume down key and then press power button.
- Connect your Galaxy Nexus to the PC via USB Cable.
- Press Start button in Odin3
The device will reboot after flashing of the kernel is complete. For the second method, head over to page 2.
